Folk
Museum
The museum is lodged in one of the last medieval houses
in the street of Milite Bernardo of the citadel, probably
constructed at the end of the fifteenth century or beginnings
of the sixteenth. The architectonic characteristics are
basically Sicilian, with possible Catalan influences.
Although it isn’t spectacular, its interior is pleasant
and its facades show rounded thresholds, heavy voussoirs
in the arcs and double windows divided by a thin column.
In order to assure their preservation, these houses were
acquired by the government in 1981. The museum started
in 1983 and provides an ample range of objects that exhibit
the traditional rural and domestic life of the people
of the island. The museum has a great collection of tools,
suits, furniture pieces and other devices related to the
Maltese country life.
