Museum
of Natural Sciences
The museum is lodged in a building constructed in 1495
-during the Aragonese government- and that according to
some historical documents would be probably the first
inn in Gozo. It was officially inaugurated as museum on
November 15, 1991. The exhibitions cover the diverse aspects
of the islands ecosystems.
The entrance hall is occupied by the Gozo geology and
palaeontology displays. Here, the visitor can see an important
collection of fossils, as well as the marine fauna and
a collection of local and exotic insects. A collection
of dry flowers is aligned against the walls of the botanical
room, while a three-dimensional model of the small Fungosa
Rock barren island - located in the bay of Dwejra-, demonstrates
its importance and its famous Melitensis fungoso, a parasitic
plant.
